Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is proposing the death penalty for those responsible for intentional forest fires, following a series of wildfires that resulted in 12 deaths in the eastern part of the country. The Minister of Justice is expected to present an amendment to the penal code by September 15. Currently, causing a forest fire can lead to a prison sentence of up to thirty years, but no executions have taken place since 1993.
