Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the NaMo Green Rail, the country's first hydrogen passenger train, on July 17, 2026, from Jind Junction in Haryana state. The train consists of two hydrogen-powered motor coaches and eight passenger cars, capable of carrying up to 2,600 passengers at 75 km/h. This pilot project aims to test the technology on non-electrified regional lines.
