France and Germany scrap fighter jet in hit to European defence cooperation

France and Germany have announced the termination of the joint sixth-generation fighter jet project (FCAS), which was expected to cost around $116 billion. The project collapsed after Dassault Aviation and Airbus failed to agree on lead and control. French President Macron's office confirmed the decision and stated it would continue to explore other European military ventures.
