Spanish transport minister resigns days after deadly train crash

Spain’s Transport Minister Óscar Puente resigned six days after a high-speed train collision near Urda killed at least 69 people and injured dozens. A state-operated Renfe train struck the back of a stationary Iryo train. Addressing Congress, Puente said a transport minister could not remain in office after two accidents of such seriousness in less than a year, also referring to a deadly crash in Andalusia in January. Leaked recordings appear to indicate that one train was cleared to move while another was stopped on the track.

Eisenkot criticized the lack of consultation and called for Netanyahu to leave office. The current security assistance agreement provides $38 billion over ten years, including funding for arms purchases and missile defense, while U.S. support for Israel’s Gaza offensive remains deeply divisive.
