Ukraine War: Protests Announced Against the Alleged Unofficial Recruitment of Young Cameroonians

The national collective “Bring Back Our Sons and Brothers” has announced peaceful protests in Cameroon over the alleged recruitment of young Cameroonians who went to Russia and were sent to fight in Ukraine. The dates and locations have not yet been specified. An investigation attributed to All Eyes on Wagner counted at least 335 Cameroonians in Russian ranks between 2023 and mid-2025, with nearly 94 reportedly dead, while the Ukrainian project “I Want to Live” put the death toll above 100; neither figure is an official consolidated count. The collective is calling for recruitment networks to be identified, deaths to be clarified, bodies to be repatriated, and assistance for Cameroonians seeking to leave combat zones.

His bid comes despite US and Canadian sanctions accusing him of facilitating drug trafficking and supporting armed gangs; on October 9, the electoral council removed a provision targeting candidates sanctioned by foreign countries.
