Delta Cuts Inherited Debt by N400bn, Targets Full Repayment in 2027

The Delta State Government says it has reduced inherited debt from N463 billion to N63 billion and aims to repay the outstanding balance by the first quarter of 2027. Economic Planning Commissioner Sonny Ekedayen attributed the reduction to the Oborevwori administration’s prudent financial management. The government plans to prioritise roads and critical infrastructure in its 2027 budget, maintaining an expenditure mix of about 70% for capital projects and 30% for recurrent spending. Asagba of Asaba Epiphany Azinge called for greater public participation in budget preparation, while civil society groups welcomed plans for legislation regulating housing.
