SASSA at 20: Two decades of transforming lives through social assistance

SASSA marks 20 years since taking over the administration of social grants in April 2006. The South African Social Security Agency has unified the social assistance system, now supporting over 26 million beneficiaries. Over two decades, it has enhanced grant delivery, implemented digital services, and expanded its reach to support vulnerable populations nationwide.
