At the UN, DRC reaffirms its determination to make its minerals a lever of sovereignty and development: "we no longer want to be just the subsoil of the global economy"

At the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Congolese Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka emphasized that the DRC, rich in critical minerals such as cobalt, copper, lithium, and nickel, aims to change its role in the global economy. She highlighted the paradox that these resources, vital for energy transition and modern technologies, also fuel conflicts within the country. The DRC, the world's leading cobalt producer and a major copper power, now seeks to leverage its resources for national development rather than just exporting raw materials.
