Somalia: Somali Opposition Lawmaker Accuses President of Targeting Rivals Amid Mogadishu Tensions

Somali opposition lawmaker Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame sharply criticized President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's administration on Friday, accusing it of pressuring political opponents following recent clashes in Mogadishu. Warsame rejected the use of clan influence as a political tool, stating that no one can claim power through clan. Tensions rose after armed confrontations involving security forces and guards accompanying opposition figures, including former prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire and former president Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. The government said its operations aimed to preserve public order, while international mediators and traditional elders are trying to calm the situation.
