Nigeria has assumed the chairmanship of the African Union Peace and Security Council for May 2026. Discussions will focus on issues such as terrorism, climate change, piracy, and insecurity across Africa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Nigeria last chaired the Council in December 2022 and is the only AU member state to have served continuously since its establishment in 2004.
