Denied the World Cup by the United States, Omar Artan appointed to referee the 2026 UEFA Super Cup

Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, 2025 African Referee of the Year, was denied entry to the United States on June 7, 2026, where he was scheduled to officiate at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Four days later, UEFA appointed him to referee the 2026 UEFA Super Cup final between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa on August 12. The appointment, made in agreement with CAF, falls under a cooperation agreement between the two organizations.
