Final verdict: The truth about Senegal’s current situation at the CAS

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has not announced when it will rule on Senegal’s appeal against the CAF decision concerning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. The closed-door hearing took place in Lausanne on October 8, with representatives of Senegal, Morocco and CAF; a ruling between October 18 and 22 has been suggested but not confirmed. Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 after extra time in Rabat on January 18, but CAF’s appeals panel later declared Senegal forfeited and recorded a 3-0 win for Morocco. The Senegalese Football Federation appealed to CAS on March 25, seeking to overturn the decision and have its on-field victory recognized.

The Senegalese Football Federation’s executive committee meeting, scheduled for October 15 in Louga, has been postponed to November 21 to complete missing documents and activity reports. Leaders are expected to assess the Lions’ performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which they won in Morocco, including bonuses and logistics. Senegal’s 2026 World Cup campaign, which ended with elimination in the round of 32, will also be reviewed, including team preparation, tactical choices, delegation arrangements and the distribution of FIFA revenues. The agenda also covers domestic competitions, club subsidies, late referee payments, youth training and the development of women’s football.
