Dismissal of ex-US soldier Bergdahl’s conviction was invalid, court rules

An appeals court ruled that District Judge Reggie Walton lacked the authority to overturn Bowe Bergdahl's military conviction for desertion. The court concluded that only an appellate court within the military justice system has the power to vacate a court-martial judgment. Bergdahl left his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was captured by Taliban-allied forces for nearly five years.
