Sudan: Survivors still face dire conditions one year after the fall of El Fasher

One year after the fall of El Fasher, the humanitarian situation in Sudan’s North Darfur State remains devastating, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). More than 900,000 displaced people are sheltering in Tawila, where shortages of food, clean water, shelter, sanitation and healthcare are straining services. Drone strikes have also damaged power substations in Gedaref State and fuel stations and public buses in North Kordofan State.

Defence Minister Israel Katz said residents would not be allowed to return until Israeli forces had dealt with what he called the Hamas issues in Hebron.

Frazier said more than 40 action plans had helped secure the release of over 220,000 children from armed forces and groups. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an action plan has established measures to prevent the national armed forces from recruiting or using children.
