“They See Neither Their Mother nor Their Father”: The Ordeal Facing Rox la Chancelière’s Children

Plastic artist Alioune Diagne, who visits Rokhaya Fall, known as “Rox la Chancelière,” every Tuesday, says her two sons, who remained in Senegal after her imprisonment, are struggling to adapt to their new school environment. The boys, who mainly speak German, were placed with relatives and also lost their father, who died around the time their mother was jailed. Diagne says they are traumatized by the separation and the loss of their family stability. He also describes Rox’s vision problems and her temporary transfer to Rufisque prison before her return to Camp pénal.
