“This victory belongs to the president”: Professor Mary Teuw Niane speaks out again

After the opening ceremony of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, former higher education minister Mary Teuw Niane published an enthusiastic tribute to the spectacle at Stade Abdoulaye Wade. He recalls scenes featuring his grandmother Daadanel, El Hadj Oumar Foutiyou Tall, Aline Sitoé Diatta and Cheikh Anta Diop, whose segment urged Africa’s youth to pursue science and technology. Niane says the victory belongs to Senegal, then to the president, the COJOJ president, organizers, artists, technicians and volunteers. He concludes that the event shows Africa can host and surprise the world, and that a new door has opened for the continent and young people.
