Western Cape storms prompt additional disaster funding

The storms that hit the Western Cape have caused damage estimated in the billions of rand, leading to the classification of the situation as a disaster by the National Disaster Management Centre. The hardest-hit areas include the Cape Winelands district and the Garden Route, where 11 lives were lost and hundreds of thousands of residents were affected. The agricultural industry has faced heavy losses, including total crop losses for some apple producers in Grabouw.
