After Gold Panning, These Holes Cannot Be Left: How NGO AEIE Revives Devastated Lands

In Koudougou, Bouaflé, a large gold panning site has been restored by the NGO Agir pour l'environnement (AEIE), where 30 women now grow green beans, cassava, cocoa, and raise fish. Previously, the site was filled with holes from gold mining, with women working in risky conditions. The NGO's rehabilitation method has transformed degraded lands into productive areas, creating green and blue jobs. The women are pleased and hope other sites will be similarly rehabilitated.
