Kashmiri rights activist wins partial court victory but remains behind bars

Khurram Parvez, a 49-year-old Kashmiri human rights activist, was granted bail by the Delhi High Court in a November 2021 'terror funding' case, but remains jailed due to a separate case from March 2023. Parvez was arrested about five years ago by India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) on charges of recruiting rebels and mobilizing protesters in Indian-administered Kashmir. Trials have not started in either case, which international rights groups criticize as punishment before trial. His lawyer hopes he could be freed in a month or two if the second case yields a positive result.
