Mogadishu battles flooding as rainy season starts

Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, is battling flooding caused by heavy rainfall from Tuesday to Wednesday, leaving vulnerable populations in dire straits. The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) warned of an increased risk of flooding during the 2026 Deyr rainy season, affecting 29 districts in 14 of the country's 18 regions. The Somali Minister of Energy and Water Resources also reported that nearly 7,000 water wells along riverbanks are at risk from flooding.
