Kano Officials Remove 5,964 Bottles of Expired Drinks from Singer Market

The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) removed 5,964 bottles of expired soft drinks from Singer Market in Kano. The operation followed a tip-off that a trader was allegedly storing the drinks for possible sale. Alhaji Auwalu A. Togo: Dogta-Lafiè Adds Endoscopic Spine Surgery to Its Medical Services

Dogta-Lafiè Hospital performed its first two endoscopic spine surgeries in Lomé on November 4, 2026. The hospital hopes to expand the practice to public hospitals, although this will depend on training teams and securing specialised equipment; Dogta-Lafiè, inaugurated in 2023, has 160 beds and cost an estimated 25 billion CFA francs.

The association, led by President Dr Ogar Emmanuel Idoko, says doctors should not be punished for failures caused by inadequate funding, staff shortages and poor hospital infrastructure. NARD warned it may consider a nationwide strike if lawmakers proceed with the bill, which has passed its second reading in the Senate. It called for the punitive provisions to be withdrawn and for better funding, functional emergency services and clear protections when circumstances are beyond medical workers’ control.
