Fresh legal hurdle hits sale of Sh300bn stake in EABL

The sale of a Sh300 billion stake in East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) faces uncertainty after beer distributor Bia Tosha announced its intention to appeal the court's decision that dismissed its bid to stop the transaction. The court rejected Bia Tosha's petition, which contests Diageo's sale of its 65 percent stake to Asahi Holdings due to ongoing litigation from 2016 regarding unfair termination of distribution rights. Bia Tosha is claiming damages of Sh25 billion for this termination.
