United States striker Folarin Balogun, born in the US to Nigerian parents, scored twice in a 4-1 victory over Paraguay on June 12, 2026, in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He became the first American player in 96 years to score more than one goal in a single World Cup match. Balogun grew up in London, joined Arsenal's academy at age eight, and chose to represent the United States over Nigeria and England.
