Nigeria Could Declare Ebola Outbreak Over by December 7, Pate Says

Nigeria’s health minister, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, said the country could declare the Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak over on December 7, 2026, if no further confirmed or probable cases are detected. The 42-day countdown began after the imported index patient was medically evacuated to Switzerland on October 26 and must be validated by the NCDC and WHO. Authorities are continuing contact tracing, investigating alerts and strengthening health-facility preparedness. Pate stressed that the date is provisional and any new case would restart the countdown.
