ECOWAS announced that the Eco, the future single currency of West Africa, will be launched in the third quarter of 2027. The symbol for the currency has already been adopted, but questions remain regarding the governor of the central bank and the host country for its headquarters. Unlike the CFA franc, the Eco will have a flexible exchange regime, and work is underway to determine its value against other regional currencies.
