Trappes attack: Suspected shooter placed under psychiatric observation for 48 hours

On October 25, France’s National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office suspended the police custody of Kévin T., 39, suspected of the shooting in Trappes and La Verrière in the Yvelines. After a psychiatric examination, he was transferred to the Paris police prefecture’s psychiatric infirmary for observation that could last up to 48 hours, to assess whether he can be questioned. Shots fired from a car on October 23 at around 10:30 a.m. killed 26-year-old Pengo Bossio Wangi and injured five people, including a 12-year-old girl. The motive has not been established; authorities are investigating a possible racist motive but have not confirmed it.

The procedure is reportedly linked to the death of Manassé Lomboto, a young ADD Congo activist who died after being violently beaten during the coalition’s September 15 march in Kinshasa. The investigation is ongoing; the opposition alleges a trap, authorities reject the accusations, and the city’s official death toll lists no fatalities.
