EPRA Boss Explains Why Fuel Prices Will Keep Changing After Recent Hike

EPRA Director General Edward Kinyua said fuel prices in Kenya may keep changing monthly in response to global oil prices and shipping costs. Because Kenya imports refined petroleum products, international prices feed directly into pump prices; crude oil is currently at $108 a barrel, up from about $60 in January, and reached $157 at the height of the United States-Israel-Iran war. A week earlier, EPRA raised petrol by KSh12.93 per litre, diesel by KSh9.90 and kerosene by KSh28.49. Kinyua said the government had spent KSh243 billion from the Petroleum Development Levy Fund since April and cut fuel VAT from 16% to 8% to curb further increases.
