Nigeria: Stakeholders Advocate Local Financing to End Malaria Scourge

During a policy dialogue organized by the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) in collaboration with Malaria Consortium, stakeholders in Nigeria's health sector called for increased domestic financing and stronger national ownership of malaria control programs as donor support declines. NMEP national coordinator Dr Nnenna Ogbulafor stated that Nigeria, which accounts for more than one-quarter of global malaria cases and nearly one-third of malaria-related deaths, must build a sustainable financing framework driven by domestic resources. She emphasized that domestic resource mobilization is no longer optional but a national necessity.
