Spain high-speed train collision kills 64, injures over 100

A collision between a Renfe train and a train operated by private company Iryo south of Madrid killed about 64 people and injured more than 100 on Wednesday, authorities said, warning the toll could rise. Fifty-eight injured people were taken to hospital, 15 in critical condition; the Iryo train was carrying 147 passengers and five staff members. Service on the main high-speed line linking Madrid with southern Spain was suspended. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was heading to the scene as rail safety came under renewed scrutiny after an earlier accident this year.
