Xenophobia: Nigerian govt may review its options over rising attacks - Bianca Ojukwu

Foreign Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu warned that Nigeria may review the operations of South African-owned businesses in Nigeria if xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa persist. Over 120 South African companies, including MTN, MultiChoice, Stanbic IBTC, and Protea Hotels, operate in Nigeria without discrimination. Nigeria has exercised diplomatic restraint but may consider alternative measures, as South Africa allegedly abandoned a Memorandum of Understanding signed in October 2025 on an early warning mechanism. The minister also highlighted pressure on Nigerians, including those married to South Africans, to leave the country.
