Seven Pregnant Police Trainees Expelled: Guy Marius Sagna Speaks Out

Senegalese MP Guy Marius Sagna is challenging the expulsion of seven pregnant trainees from the 49th cohort of the National Police School. After Interior Minister Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé replied to his written question, Sagna called the decision unjust and illegal, arguing that rules on academic performance or discipline do not justify expulsion because of pregnancy. The seven women, former volunteer auxiliary police officers, began training on March 3, 2025, and completed the first part of the course before being told to take maternity leave in July. Sagna is seeking their reinstatement after childbirth in the 50th or 51st cohort and wants the rules governing police training revised.
