MRC prisoners pledge to support Maurice Kamto for the Nobel Peace Prize; political leader praises their courage

MRC activists held at Kondengui Central Prison wrote to Maurice Kamto to praise his leadership of the party since 2012 and his support for imprisoned members. In a letter dated October 26, 2026, the eleven signatories pledged to do everything possible to put forward his candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize, though no formal nomination has been filed. Kamto praised their courage and loyalty and said his commitment to freedom, justice and democracy in Cameroon remains unchanged. The letter’s authors were arrested after the September 22, 2020 demonstrations and cited UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention opinion No. 63/2022.
