He Needs Medical Care, Not a Campaign, Atiku Aide Ibe Tells Tinubu After Viral Video

Paul Ibe, media aide to ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, urged President Bola Tinubu to abandon his re-election bid and seek medical care. Reacting to a viral video from the APC presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna State, Ibe said Tinubu was unfit to lead the country. He called on the president’s family to prioritise his well-being, pointing to apparent shaking in the video and alleging that camera angles avoided close-ups of Tinubu.

Côte d’Ivoire: Friedrich Naumann Foundation calls for women’s alliances in decision-making

In Abidjan on October 23, 2026, Alexandra Heldt, West Africa regional director of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, called for stronger trust networks and alliances among women to increase their influence over public decisions. Speaking at a networking luncheon during the second edition of the Women’s Political Forum, she said that presence in assemblies and political parties is not enough: women must take part in shaping public policy and making decisions. She put women’s share of seats in Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly at 13–14%, compared with about 41% in Senegal, nearly 30% in Mali and Guinea, and 32% in Germany’s Bundestag. Around 40 participants from five countries had attended workshops the previous day on women’s rights, legal remedies, political communication, artificial intelligence, disinformation, and online harassment.

Cameroon Vice-President Appointment: Paul Biya Fears His Own Succession, Political Analyst Says

Political analyst Stéphane Menounga believes the absence of a vice-president in Cameroon may reflect Paul Biya’s personal concerns about succession. He says the April 2026 constitutional reform gives the vice-president a role in determining whether the president is permanently unable to serve, and that Biya may fear an appointment could hasten that process. The post has remained vacant since its reintroduction in the Constitution, despite calls for an appointment. At 93, Biya retains the final decision over his future vice-president.

Serbia sees highest voter turnout in decades as students challenge Vucic

Polling stations closed in Serbia on Sunday after a snap parliamentary election pitted President Aleksandar Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) against a student-backed movement born out of nationwide anticorruption protests. The State Election Commission reported turnout of 64.9 percent by 17:00 GMT, the highest since the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1992, though turnout alone did not indicate which side had gained support. Monitors reported pressure on voters or election workers at nearly a third of the 500 polling stations they observed, failures to protect ballot secrecy, and about 260 potential irregularities reported to CeSID. Riot police deployed near the election commission’s headquarters in Belgrade, where roads were closed and barricades erected.
