France to deploy 70,000 police ahead of new protests

France will deploy about 70,000 police and security personnel on Saturday as protests resume after violence broke out alongside demonstrations the previous week. Courts have already sent 217 people to prison over last Saturday’s events, Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said.
