Ebola in Nigeria: Fears mount that contacts could test positive

Nigeria confirmed an imported case of Bundibugyo virus disease in the Federal Capital Territory on October 20, 2026, in a woman with recent travel involving Uganda; authorities are monitoring 44 contacts. The patient developed symptoms on October 7 and sought care at a private hospital in Abuja on October 11, and Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate said she was showing signs of recovery by October 23. No community transmission had been reported at that point as the NCDC continued investigations and strengthened surveillance and infection-prevention measures. Professor Tomori urged authorities to prepare, stressing that hospitals need reliable running water, sanitizer and protective equipment.
