Who is Adam Hamawy? Doctor who served in Gaza is on the path to US Congress

Adam Hamawy, a plastic surgeon, army veteran, and conflict-zone medical worker, won the Democratic primary for an open seat in the US House of Representatives. Egyptian-born, he will represent New Jersey's 12th Congressional District, a Democratic stronghold, and face Republican Gregg Mele on November 3. Hamawy is the only candidate with firsthand experience of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza. He said his testimony to lawmakers in Washington prompted him to run, hoping to address the US role in the conflict.
