Port of Lomé: Boluda strengthens tugboat fleet to support port competitiveness

The Port of Lomé has received a new Boluda tugboat, welcomed by port director general Edem Kokou Tengue and Boluda Togo officials; its naming ceremony is planned for January 2027. Built in 2026 by Turkish shipyard SANMAR, the 23-metre vessel has more than 6,000 horsepower and a 80-tonne bollard pull, compared with 70 tonnes for the fleet’s other tugs. It arrived from Las Palmas with a Togolese crew and is expected to assist larger ships during docking and departure, boosting the port’s appeal. Lomé handled 2.4 million TEUs in 2025 and ranked 91st in Lloyd’s List’s 2026 global port ranking, ahead of Tema in 94th place.
