World Cup 2026: Ghana starts with a victory and a historic record

Ghana beat Panama 1-0 on June 18, 2026 at Toronto Stadium in their first match of the 2026 World Cup. Caleb Yirenkyi, 20, scored the winning goal in added time (90+5), becoming the youngest player in World Cup history to score a winning goal in stoppage time. Jordan Ayew played his third World Cup, joining Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari and André Ayew as Ghanaians with three World Cup appearances. At 34 years and 279 days, Jordan Ayew also became the oldest player to represent the Black Stars in the tournament.
