American and six Ukrainians released by India after six months in jail

Matthew VanDyke, a US citizen held in India for over six months and accused of supporting ethnic separatist groups, has been temporarily released on bail and returned to the US. He was detained in March along with six Ukrainian nationals, all of whom were released on Saturday. VanDyke's family reported that he was in poor health after a month-long hunger strike in jail and had to use a wheelchair for court hearings. Indian prosecutors declined to pursue terrorism charges, instead accusing them of visa violations for entering restricted areas near the Myanmar border.
