What happened to the proposed Serengeti Disney theme park in Tanzania?

Announced in November 2019, the Serengeti Disney theme park was planned near the Kijereshi Game Reserve in Simiyu Region, costing $2.3 billion. Then-Regional Commissioner Anthony Mtaka revealed the plans, but the project never materialized. Mtaka, now regional commissioner for Njombe, no longer mentions the initiative.
