EFCC arrests 19 suspected cyber fraudsters in Lagos estate

Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 19 people suspected of cyber fraud during an operation at about 5 a.m. on Monday at Applewood Estate, Orchid Road, Lekki, in Lagos State. The suspects allegedly defrauded victims using gift cards, cryptocurrencies and international money transfers while impersonating others. Operatives initially arrested 21 people and recovered five exotic cars; two were released after investigators found they were not implicated. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the 19 suspects would be arraigned, and that a woman briefly held over calls allegedly intended to alert the suspects had her phone returned after the operation.
