Independence anniversary: Kaduna govt releases 27 inmates

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani granted clemency to 27 inmates across correctional facilities to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. Since taking office in May 2023, his administration has benefitted over 500 inmates through releases, fines, and compensation payments as part of a restorative justice initiative. Attorney-General Sir James A. Kanyip explained that this ongoing practice aims to promote accountability, rehabilitation, and social reintegration by removing financial barriers and recognizing victims’ interests. The initiative emphasizes responsible citizenship and community renewal, with beneficiaries encouraged to reintegrate as productive members of society.
