The Federal Government of Nigeria has received the report of an independent panel investigating corruption, abuse of power, and torture in the Nigerian Correctional Service. Chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the panel concluded its work after 18 months of investigation. Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo stated that the findings will serve as a basis for reforms to transform detention centers into places of rehabilitation. He also noted a drop in recidivism from 11,616 inmates in 2023 to 1,382 in 2025, and that 62 inmates are currently pursuing postgraduate studies.
