Constitutional Council: Pastef heavily charges President Bassirou Diomaye Faye

Pastef parliamentary group deputies strongly criticized President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's decision to refer the constitutional revision adopted by the National Assembly to the Constitutional Council for unconstitutionality. In a statement, Ayib Daffé, Abdoulaye Tall, Fatma Mbodj, Abdoulaye Sow, Awa Sonko, and Anne-Marie Yacine Tine consider this a renunciation of the president's commitment to hold a referendum. They argue that the referral implicitly recognizes the final adoption of the revision and that the president can only challenge the law after all procedural steps are completed. According to them, this move ends the prospect of a referendum and aims to avoid a foreseeable electoral defeat.
