She pockets 150,000 FCFA and keeps quiet: A grandmother at the heart of the scandal of the rape of little B. Pène

On June 4, 2026, the Koungheul police station arrested E. Mboup, 17, for the rape of a 14-year-old classmate, B. Pène. The victim's grandmother, Ndèye Thiam, was arrested for non-reporting of a crime and complicity after receiving 150,000 FCFA from the alleged attacker's father to cover up the case. Ndèye Thiam initially demanded 600,000 FCFA before settling on 150,000 FCFA, supposedly for the 'care' of her granddaughter. The young Mboup claims to have a 'romantic relationship' with the victim.
