Supermarket fridges in Sweden, Ireland overheat amid suspected cyberattacks

Sudden temperature rises in supermarket refrigeration systems were reported in Sweden, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Estonia amid suspected cyberattacks. John Billow, head of Sweden’s National Cyber Security Centre, said it was responding to multiple incidents and warned that many operational technology devices in Sweden needed updates or patches. Swedish chains ICA and Coop reported affected freezers, while Axfood said a grocery home-delivery distribution centre near Gothenburg had been hacked. Ireland’s SuperValu said a cyber incident affected one refrigeration-system model at 13 of its 223 stores; Ahold Delhaize stores in Belgium and Luxembourg and five Spar shops were also affected.
