Yemen’s landmine crisis endures despite truce and de-mining efforts

In August 2023, 13-year-old Enaya Dastor lost her leg after stepping on a landmine in the Taiz governorate of Yemen. Although fighting between Yemen's government and Houthi forces largely stopped in April 2022, landmines left on former battlefields continue to cause injuries and deaths. According to Save the Children, at least 339 children have been killed and 843 injured by landmines and explosive remnants of war since the 2022 truce.
