Africa: Horn of Africa At 'Dangerous Crossroads,' IGAD Chief Warns As Conflicts Become Interconnected

The Horn of Africa is at a 'dangerous crossroads' marked by interconnected conflicts and rising geopolitical competition, warned Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of IGAD. Speaking at the Mediation Reflection Conference in Nairobi, he emphasized that crises are no longer isolated but part of a complex conflict system. Gebeyehu also cautioned that the traditional foundations of mediation are weakening, risking a shift towards reactive crisis management instead of lasting conflict resolution.
