Samuel Eto’o case: MRC accuses Salomon Beas of presenting no evidence to the judge

After closing arguments, the judge concluded the hearing in a case concerning allegations of a paid campaign to damage Samuel Eto’o’s reputation and is expected to issue an order on October 26 at 10 a.m. Me Hippolyte Meli, appearing for the Sylvain Souop collective, says Salomon Beas provided no evidence for his claims about the MRC, its alleged use of influencers, and Maurice Kamto’s knowledge of the campaign. According to Meli, the only documents submitted were a certificate of residence dated October 13 and the defense’s written arguments. The case also involves Henri Ulrich Ngoko Kamgang, who reportedly sought to be removed from the proceedings, a request Meli contests under Cameroon’s electronic communications rules.

Mali: Gunmen kill more than 40 civilians in the northeast

More than 40 civilians, mostly men, were killed over the weekend in attacks on camps in the Ménaka region of northeastern Mali, according to security and local sources cited by AFP. The attackers reportedly arrived by motorcycle and targeted camps housing mainly members of the Daoussahak community, in and around Tinabow village and in the Tagadayat area. The community’s executive bureau blamed the Islamic State group, while a security source described the killings as retaliation for recent military operations and attacks by the Movement for the Salvation of Azawad, which is aligned with the government in Bamako. Mali has faced a security crisis since 2012 involving the army and its Russian allies, jihadist fighters, Tuareg separatist groups and criminal gangs.
