Sahel: the EU admits its mistakes and seeks to reposition itself against Russia

The European Union has acknowledged its failure to maintain effective dialogue with several Sahel states and is seeking to re-establish relations with the military authorities. João Cravinho, the EU's special representative for the Sahel, admitted a loss of influence in the face of Russia, which has strengthened its presence in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. The EU is trying to maintain a diplomatic presence while facing increasing isolation, particularly due to the suspension of certain European missions since 2022.
